BROKEN LINK CHECKS
Find the dead end. Trace the way back.
A broken destination leaves readers stranded. Find missing pages in your internal-link scan, inspect the links pointing to them, and check supplied URLs for destination health.
Hosted features are in private pilot. See access and limits.
Three results. Different next steps.
| Observed result | Next step |
|---|---|
| 404 · Page missing | Inspect source links |
| 301 · Page moved | Review the new address |
| Request blocked | Keep as unknown |
A failed request alone does not prove a page is gone.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Repair the right part of the journey.
Find links to missing pages
Internal-link scans identify observed destinations returning 404 or 410. Inspect the referring pages before choosing a replacement or removing the link.
Keep redirects in view
A redirect may take a reader somewhere useful, or somewhere you did not intend. Review where the destination now leads.
Watch a supplied destination
Track the health of a URL you care about. Keep its result separate from whether a publisher’s page still links to it.
- 01
Choose what to check
Scan your own hostname for internal-link findings, or supply a destination URL for a health check.
- 02
Read the response
Distinguish a missing page from a redirect, a temporary failure or a blocked request. Keep inconclusive checks open.
- 03
Trace the source
Inspect the source links found by the scan, or source pages you already know. Decide whether to restore the page, update those links or remove a reference.
- 04
Verify the repair
Check the destination again and rescan the relevant pages. Keep the dated result beside the original finding.
EXAMPLE
You replace an old guide with a new one, but several articles still point to the removed URL. The scan identifies the missing destination and its source pages. You can then update those references and check the new path.
An illustrative workflow, not a customer case study.
Coverage and limits
The internal scan checks your selected hostname within its crawl limits. It is not a whole-web or competitor-site broken-link search.
A publisher can remove your backlink while your destination stays healthy. Placement monitoring checks that separate question.
Understand the evidenceQUESTIONS
Before you begin.
See the product guide for instructions and the access and data policy for permissions.
Is this a free website checker?
This page explains the hosted workflow, which requires account access. The public backlink checker is a separate single-page tool for a supplied source and destination pair.
Does a timeout count as a broken link?
No. A timeout or blocked request is inconclusive. A checked 404 or 410 response is different from a page the checker could not read.
Will it fix links for me?
You or your authorized agent make the repair in your site tools. AgentLinkOps supplies the findings and subsequent observations.
